Girls SOAR High Mission Statement
We are Girls SOAR High, a team from SOAR High School in the Antelope Valley, dedicated to empowering and mobilizing women and non-male students through male-dominated environments into personal, academic, and professional success. We are part of a rigorous dual-enrollment program that leads students to otherwise inaccessible opportunities. Students at SOAR often find themselves overly stressed because of the immense workload and expectations. The Girls SOAR High team aims to build and reinforce Motivated Minds. Working to inform our SOAR population on harmful stereotypes, bullying, body neutrality/positivity, goal setting, and self-defense through workshops, posters, and club collaborations will motivate our SOAR minds. According to various New York University experiments, 49% of all students feel stressed daily, with 60% of girls stressed compared to 41% of boys. Girls are targeted for their appearance, gender, and interests; this is why the Girls SOAR High team has landed on Health and wellness. We must target all (social, personal, academic) contributing factors of mental unwellness to, in turn, motivate and empower all girls. When girls feel safe, prepared, and recognized, it leads to motivated and determined minds for bright futures.
