Outcomes Of Our Project

Short Term

Plans are not always set in stone, as a result our ideas and plans morphed into new things over time. Over the course of this year, it seems we have created a social change within our school as the relationship between teacher and student has matured and this is one of our biggest achievements. In the beginning, when we released a survey in order to understand how the student body was feeling, teachers became more interested in what was making students feel stressed. This resulted in teachers taking time out of their classes to communicate with their students. Now, students feel more comfortable vocalizing their concerns with their teachers. Additionally, the reward system we created to motivate students (Winning On Excellence) has provided 14 gift cards out of 18 to students. This system has set a goal for students and persuaded them to interact with their classroom more. Not only have we helped students, we have come to recognize our teachers  and faculty members and their tremendous efforts through Love The Leadership. We have served approximately 450 students at our school, along with 21 teachers and staff members. We have also served approximately 534 people, including students from SOAR and other schools, through social media and 549 people have received Positive Daily Affirmations. This means we have been able to give hope and encouragement to 549 people, and they, including our members, have stated that these affirmations are helpful especially on difficult days. Students have also gained valuable knowledge relating to nutrition and staying active. They were also given an opportunity to discuss race, which helped students gain knowledge and understanding.

Long Term

Community members, along with students and teachers at our school, SOAR High School, will be more aware of the mental, physical, and emotional health of themselves and others. Teachers will be able to help students and refer them to other adults and recommend resources if necessary. Students and adults will also be able to apply the knowledge they learned in workshops regarding nutrition, staying active, and art to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health, and offer help to others. Motivation will increase among students and teachers, and both groups will learn how to maintain this motivation.
